Chapter Two to Host Golf and GPS at
September
30th Events
Chapter Two is offering a chance to
both score some CEUs and score some
birdies at two events on September
30.
RTK Basic Operation
and Troubleshooting
Chapter
Two will host a four-hour RTK
seminar on September 30th
at 8:00 a.m. the Trophy Club Country
Club,
500 Trophy Club Drive,
Trophy Club, Texas. While this seminar has been approved
for 4 CEUs by the Texas Board of
Professional Land Surveying, both
professionals and para-professionals
will find it extremely useful.
Real Time Kinematic (RTK) is the
most common method for the use of
GPS in Land Surveying today. This
course will explain to the novice or
intermediate user the basics of RTK
surveying, as well as the definition
of relevant terms. Topics covered
include how to set up the equipment,
check the radio performance, search
for sources of error and
troubleshoot the RTK performance. By
the end of the seminar attendees
will be able to recognize and
correctly use common RTK terms,
identify components and functions of
an RTK system, assemble a virtual
RTK system, determine where to set
up a base station - receiver and
radio, and determine the radio range
on a quad map.

Volunteers Needed for Educator’s
Retreat

Dallas Chapter Five to bid to host
the 2010
TSPS Educator’s Retreat next

TBPLS Crackdown on Unsigned
Exhibits Announced
The
program for the regular May meeting
of Chapter Two was a presentation by
Garey Gilley, RPLS, LSLS, and
Investigator for the Texas Board of
Professional Land Surveying (TBPLS).
Mr. Gilley gave a report on
discussions at the recent TBPLS
board meeting on the increasing
problem with easement descriptions
and exhibits not being signed and
sealed by the Registered
Professional Land Surveyor
responsible for their preparation.
Mr. Gilley
reported that the board has received
literally hundreds of such
documents, primarily for gas
pipelines. At their June meeting,
the TBPLS board identified at least
3 different rules that such practice
may violate. The TBPLS board
instructed their staff to vigorously
purse investigation of these
potential violations.

Searching the Texas GLO
Website
Davey Edwards, RPLS, LSLS, gave a
presentation on how to search and
obtain information online from the
Texas General Land Office. Davey
covered the many different types of
records and maps that are available
from the GLO. He also provided some
valuable tips on ordering
information from the GLO.
